Coffee is getting yet another “millennial” makeover. In the past year or so we’ve seen beetroot lattes, pumpkin lattes, turmeric lattes and mushroom lattes come and go. It’s now time to welcome a new veggie coffee twist…broccoli coffee.
Yes, this is correct. Scientists at CSIRO have developed a broccoli powder that can be used in coffee or mixed into foods, like smoothies. According to CSIRO and the agriculture group Hort Innovation, two tablespoon of this powder contain about one serve of broccoli.
Hort Innovation chief executive John Lloyd said in a press release “Research sows the average Australian is still not eating the recommended daily intake of vegetables a day, and options such as broccoli powder will help address this”.
Not only is this new powder good for your health, but it will do it’s part for the environment. Bunches of broccoli deemed too imperfect looking for shops are being ground up into the powder. No waste here!
So not only will you get a caffeine kick from your morning coffee, but a serving of veg too. Winning!
